POST-CONFERENCE FIELD TRIP
A post-symposium field trip will be held on Sept. 29 & 30 (Monday & Tuesday). It will be a two-day trip visiting multiple geological and paleontological sites in and around Fukui. Tentative destinations are as follows.

Kitadani Dinsoaur Quarry, Katsuyama, Fukui
Kitadani Dinosaur Quarry is important as one of the most produc tive fossil sites for freshwater and terrestrial fauna and flora in the Mesozoic of Japan. It is part of the Kitadani Formation, Tetori Group dating back to the Early Cretaceous (approximately 120Ma), and has been yielding numerous remains of dinosaurs and serving as a center of dinosaur research in Japan.

Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum, Wakasa, Fukui
Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum is a key scientific institution dedicated to the study of varves, annually deposited sedimentary layers that provide crucial insights into past climate changes and geological events. The museum showcases exceptionally well-preserved varve records from Lake Suigetsu, dating back over 70,000 years. These sediments serve as an important chronological benchmark for radiocarbon dating, significantly contributing to the research about the global climate and past environments

Wakasa Mikata Jomon Museum, Wakasa, Fukui
Wakasa Mikata Jomon Museum in Wakasa, Fukui offers a fascinating glimpse into Japan’s ancient Jomon Period. Located near Lake Suigetsu, the m useum showcases artifacts from the Torihama Shell Mound, including ancient pott ery, tools, and a dugout canoe.

Tamba-ryu Fossil Site, Tamba, Hyogo
Tamba-ryu Fossil Site represents part of the Lower Cretaceous Ohyamashimo Formation (approximately 110Ma) and known for the occurrence of the Tamba-ryu, which was described as a new species of a titanosauriform, Tambatitanis amicitiae. The site is also known for an assemblage of diverse dinosaur eggshells.

Tamba Dinosaur Museum, Tamba, Hyogo
The museum offers a guide to rich dinosaur fossil discoveries in the region. It features a full-size casts of various dinosaurs, featuring those found in and around the region. ※The museum is planned to open in July.

The Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo, Sanda, Hyogo
The Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo is a large nat ural-history museum featuring the coexistence of humans and nature. It has been playing a major role in leading various paleontological studies and collecting paleontological specimens in and around the region including dinosaurs.
